10 things we touch everyday that are dirtier than a toilet seat

We often use hand sanitizers after visiting a public toilet as we fear infection. That fear is justified, but do you know about various other things that can actually be more dangerous? 

1. Toothbrushes: Surprised? Well, don't be. After a toilet flush, bacteria can travel up to 6 feet and linger in the air for up to 2 hours and hence, land up on toothbrushes.



2. Kitchen wipes and sponges: They have 10 million bacteria per square inch and are known to be 2,00,000 times dirtier than a toilet seat. They can affect health severely.


3. Chopping boards: Boards used to chop raw meat have truckload of faecal bacteria, need not be told how harmful they can be. Average chopping boards have 200 times more faecal bacteria than a toilet seat.


4. Carpets: Carpets are known to have 2,00,000 bacteria per square inch and are 400 times dirtier than a toilet seat.

5. Ice: A study conducted in various American restaurants revealed that the ice it served had more bacteria than the restaurant's toilet water.


6. Restroom floors: With the number of people walking in with their dirty shoes, the number of bacteria on the floor is bound to be more than that on a toilet seat. Public restrooms are known have up to 1.5 to 2 million bacteria per square inch, whereas an average toilet seat houses only 50.


7. Restaurant menus: Menu cards are often the least cleaned items and hence have a huge number of bacteria on them. When compared to a toilet seat they have 10 times more bacteria, that may or may not be harmful.


8. Office desks: Shocked? Is that where you spend most of your day? A study conducted revealed that office desks have 400 times more bacteria than a toilet seat and influenza viruses are most common on office desks.


9. Cell phones: Mobile phones are known to have 10 times more bacteria than a toilet seat. Cleaning it regularly is important because the chances of infection is high as the mouth is exposed to these bacteria.


10. Keyboards: Clean your keyboard now! It is quite likely that you have never cleaned it. They are known to carry over 200 times more bacteria than a toilet seat.
